AN EVENING WITH GLENN JONES
Six-string Acoustic Guitarist and Co-Producer of the new John Fahey Boxset
Friday, October 28th
In support of his new record The Wanting on Thrill Jockey Records, guitarist Glenn Jones will be performing on Friday, October 28th at a house concert in Takoma Park.
Described as “a collection of original compositions for steel string guitar, 10-string and bottleneck, and 5-string open-back banjo,” The Wanting was recorded in Boston during the spring of 2011 with collaborator Matthew Azevedo. Glenn Jones is perhaps most known for his work with the Boston psych band Cul de Sac, with whom he recorded nine albums over the course of a decade. Cul de Sac collaborated with such luminaries as Krautrock vocalist Damo Suzuki and guitar legend John Fahey. Although Cul de Sac is best described as instrumental post-rock, Jones has recently pursued a more minimal, acoustic route with his guitar. As Jones describes it: “I consider myself to be part of a tribe of acoustic finger-style guitar players whose main inspirations are the “American Primitive” or “Takoma school” guitarists, those centered around John Fahey… what I like about the latter (and the American Primitive guitarists) was the fact that their music was not about virtuosity for its own sake, but, rather, was a way to express some kind of feeling.”
Glenn Jones will be performing on solo guitar as well as banjo in an 8:00pm house concert at the Potts-Dupre Schoolhouse, located at 8 Columbia Avenue in Takoma Park. Suggested donation is $15 and seats can be reserved by calling 301-270-1895 or through Facebook at

Prior to the house concert, at 5:00 pm, there will be a “meet and greet” with Glenn Jones at Artspring located next door to the House of Musical Traditions, 7014 Westmoreland Avenue. As co-producer of the newly released Dust-to-Digital 5-CD John Fahey boxset Your Past Comes Back to Haunt You: The Fonotone Years 1958-1965, Jones will be discussing the legacy of John Fahey’s music and his friendship with Fahey. Copies of the comprehensive box set will also be available for purchase.
The “meet and greet” is free and open to the public.
